All of our Spanish courses are taught by Ana Castillo, also known as Chiva, and Chelsea Glass. Chiva is 100% Guatemalan and a native Spanish speaker who happened to live in the U.S. for three years as a small child, allowing her to develop native speaker status in English. Chelsea was born and raised in California and first began studying Spanish 11 years ago, at the age of 19. Thanks to her 11 years immersed in the language, along with her post-graduate studies in Spanish at CSU Sacramento, Chelsea is a fluent Spanish speaker and experienced language instructor.
It was in fact their shared love of language learning that caused the pair to meet in 2011 in a TEFL Teacher Training course in Antigua Guatemala. Chiva then went on to teach English in China for 3 years before returning to Guatemala where she taught Spanish and worked in IT before entering the tourism industry in 2016. From 2012 to 2016, Chelsea worked in both tourism and language education (Spanish and ESL) while pursuing her M.A. in Spanish before moving back full time to Guatemala in 2017 to start Heart of Travel.
Chelsea and Chiva's personal backgrounds, combined education, and work and life experiences make them the perfect duo for Spanish language learning. Together they have created a fun and engaging approach to Spanish language learning with an emphasis on Spanish for travelers. Unlike more formal courses with a rigid academic focus on passing exams and getting good grades, Chelsea and Chiva have designed a program where they draw on their own personal experiences of learning and teaching second languages in order to give you the tools and tips you actually need to reach your Spanish language goals. Don't just think of them as your teachers, but rather your friends and coaches/guides in YOUR journey with Spanish and travel in Latin America. They have gone through the same process you're in now and are eager to share their experiences and insights with you!
